The unfortunate need people who will be kind to them;
the prosperous need people to be kind to.

The need is great.

Liberia is a West African coastal country with 4.61 million inhabitants and is one of the least developed countries in the world. More than half of the population lives in poverty, with estimated 45 – 50% of Liberians were living on less than $2 a day. Access to healthcare, education, and basic utilities like energy, are also particularly low compared to the rest of the region. Adult illiteracy rate was 48.3 in 2017 and with a Youth literacy rate of 54.5 %.

Civil war and the Ebola epidemic precipitated a prolonged economic crisis which the country is still reeling from. Currently, around 38% of the population is food insecure and according to a study conducted by the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services, more than 70 percent of households reported difficulties with food shortage and increased food prices. 25% of the population does not have access to clean drinking water, and just 17% have access to basic health services.The nation has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world, along with many children at risk of death from preventable illnesses like malaria. Diarrheal diseases still remain the second largest cause of death for children under five. Life expectancy, education and income are ranked extremely low on a worldwide scale. The nation also has the world’s third-highest unemployment rate.
